Deputy Executive Officer for the IMBeR Regional Project Office - China
 
The Integrated Marine Biosphere Research (IMBeR) Project, co-sponsored by the Scientific Committee for Oceanic Research (SCOR) and Future Earth, is an international research initiative focussed on marine biogeochemical and socio-ecological research (www.IMBER.info).
 
IMBeR and the East China Normal University (ECNU) jointly established a regional office, the IMBeR Regional Project Office (IMBeR RPO) in 2010, to promote IMBeR in the Asia-Pacific region and support the implementation of the IMBeR Science Plan. The IMBeR RPO is located at the East China Normal University, Shanghai, China and is headed by a Deputy Executive Officer, assisted by an administrative officer/secretary.
 
IMBeR and ECNU are seeking a candidate to fill the position of Deputy Executive Officer.
 
The task of the Deputy Executive Officer is to assist the Executive Officer of the International Project Office (IPO) located at the Institute of Marine Research, Bergen, Norway. This includes helping to support the IMBeR Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) in implementing the IMBeR Science Plan, and promoting IMBeR activities in the Asia-Pacific region. In particular, the Deputy Executive Officer will help coordinate the activities of the IMBeR Continental Margins Working Group and the Upwellings Working Group. The Deputy Executive Officer is responsible for seeking and managing project finances, representing the project at international meetings, and interacting with IMBeR national committees and groups, as well as other international projects.
 
For this position, we seek a candidate with a strong track record in scientific coordination, and preferably with experience in IMBeR related marine science. A postgraduate degree (Masters or PhD) would be an advantage. Some international travel will be involved. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and administrative abilities, including excellent writing and verbal communication in English and Chinese.
 
The position is available immediately, and is initially for one year, with a possible extension for up to three years. The salary will be up to 200k in CNY per year, depending on the relevant skills, knowledge and experience that the candidate brings to the position.
