Multiple faculty positions are available in the School of Marine Sciences, East China Normal University, Shanghai, China

The School of Marine Sciences, East China Normal University, invites applications with excellent scientific records of marine science discipline at the postdoc, associate professor, and full professor levels. The successful applicants will work collaboratively with the faculties in State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research in, but not limited to, the following research fields:
1) Intrinsic physical processes of estuarine and coastal waters with scales ranging from turbulent mixing, wave, estuarine circulation, shelf circulation, and their interactions, with the techniques of field observation or numerical simulations.
2) Biogeochemical processes and mechanisms that are responsible for organic and inorganic material cycling in marine environments.
3) Sedimentary processes in estuarine and coastal waters under the multiple stresses of anthropogenic activities and natural evolutions.
4) Developing the community modeling system for coastal environments that links the hydrodynamic, biogeochemical and ecological processes, with spatial scales ranging from estuary, wetland, and coastal waters.
5) Developing the estuarine and coastal observatory systems to enhance the data collection and analysis capabilities.
6) Other relevant research topics.

Successful candidates will be offered internationally competitive salaries based on qualifications and experiences, together with start-up research funds. There are also promotion opportunities if qualified during the contract period.

For those who have children: We have the priority to send your kids to the top level kindergarten or elementary school in Shanghai, which is attached to the East China Normal University.

Research and Engineer Positions Available at SKLEC-NIVA Center

SKLEC-NIVA Centre is a joint international research laboratory set up by State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research (SKLEC) at East China Normal University (ECNU) and Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) studying on coastal and marine research on marine physics, biogeochemistry, ecosystems and ecosystem services with a focus on climate and environmental change. The Centre is led by Professor Richard Bellerby. Both the Chinese and Norwegian sides provide investment, personnel and equipment for the Centre.

Professor, Associate Professor and Postdoctoral Researcher positions
We are looking for outstanding researchers with a proven record in interdisciplinary research in Chemical Oceanography, Marine Biogeochemistry, Marine Ecology, Biophysics, Remote Sensing and Ocean Observations.  Applicants should have a PhD with a proven research record, should be flexible, independent, innovative and cooperative, and wish to work in a broad interdisciplinary scientific research group. You should be able to work in a team, but also independently. You are able to communicate easily in English, both verbally and in writing.

Marine instrument developer
We are looking for a highly qualified engineer to develop novel instruments for ocean observations. The successful applicant will have experience in the operation and development of sensors for physical, environmental and/or biological monitoring, competent computer and sensor programming capability. Experience with responsibility for marine instrument operations is an advantage.
SKLEC offer a very competitive salary, pension and working conditions, together with start-up research funds.

Please submit applications, with letter of interest, CV and contact details of two referees to hjiang@sklec.ecnu.edu.cn (email subject “SKLEC-NIVA Position”).The successful candidates will be employed at SKLEC. The annual gross salary is negotiable depending on experience.
The working location is at State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research, East China Normal University, 3663 North Zhongshan Road, Putuo District, Shanghai, China.

Closing date: 30th November, 2016, or until all positions are filled.

Postdoctoral Researcher positions
In the SKLEC-NIVA Centre, Quan-Xing’s group is using marine algae as the model systems to explore how physical environments can control organisms’ behavior and biodiversity. With specific expertise in theoretical models, we integrate the controlled lab experiments and mathematical model to understand how ecological processes and physical environments shape the spatial patterned formation in marine ecology. Our vision is that understanding individuals (or micro-scale) biophysical interactions is paramount to predict ecosystem-level dynamics and functionality with the collaborators from NYU and SJTU research groups.
For this postdoctoral position applications are welcome from early-career scientists with an outstanding track record in Biophysics / Quantitative Biology, Biomathematics, Ecology, and a strong interest in Movement Ecology.
We offer a competitive salary, pension and working conditions, together with start-up research funds.
Please submit applications, with letter of interest, CV and contact details of two referees to hjiang@sklec.ecnu.edu.cn (email subject “SKLEC-NIVA Position”).
