Post-doctoral Position in Ocean Tracer Modelling and/or Isotope Geochemistry

Salary Range: £32,100 - £33,820 per annum
Fixed term appointment for up to 32 months
Applications are invited for a Research Associate to join the MAss Spectrometry and Isotope Geochemistry Group at Imperial College London (MAGIC) within the Department of Earth Science & Engineering.
The aim of the research is to revisit the neodymium paradox in the ocean, which describes the observation that Nd concentrations in seawater show a nutrient-type behaviour, whilst Nd isotopes appear to display a quasi-conservative behaviour. The project will involve the completion of an observational data set on seawater and marine particulates and a significant modelling component. Methods include established procedures for precise isotopic analyses by both TIMS and MC-ICP-MS, and tracer modelling approaches such as the Transport Matrix Method (TMM) in collaboration with Samar Khatiwala.
A PhD (or equivalent) in tracer modelling or isotope geochemistry or a closely related field is a prerequisite. Good laboratory skills and experience in isotopic analyses by TIMS (and/or MC-ICP-MS) and/or extensive experience in modelling marine biogeochemical cycles of tracers for ocean circulation are highly desirable.
Our preferred method of application is online via our website (select ‘employment opportunities’ on the start page of Imperial College London, chose ‘Job Search’ and enter the job reference no EN20120297FH). Please complete and upload an application form as directed and submit any other relevant supporting documents such as your fullCV.

Committed to equality and valuing diversity. We are also an Athena Silver SWAN Award winner, a Stonewall Diversity Champion and a Two Ticks Employer.

Note: We would very much welcome applications from modellers for this position, as the funding provides flexibility to hire in modelling or isotope geochemistry.
